The Minster Church of St Michael & All Angels & St Benedict Biscop dates back to C940AD and formally served the ancient parish of Bishopwearmouth. Since 2007 the Minster was been an Extra Parochial Place of Worship serving the whole city of Sunderland and is once again a parish church.
Some features include a medieval doorway, architecture by Dobson and Case, beautiful Stained Glass Windows by William Morris and Tom Denny+ as well as a superb example of a Harrison & Harrison church organ. The minster also features the beautiful, serene St Bede’s Chapel for a moment of quiet contemplation with some superb examples of stained glass windows.
Why not take a look at our many memorials celebrating the life’s of everyone from local parishioner’s to soldiers killed in World War II. And after a day spent looking around why not enjoy a rest with some lunch in our vibrant café/restaurant situated just off the main building.
