Milton Abbey
Milton Abbas, Dorset
Milton Abbey occupies probably the most beautiful setting of any church in the county of Dorset, resting in a natural amphitheater surrounded by wooded hills, seemingly miles from anywhere.
The church looks down through its quiet rural village towards Milton Abbey.
Hilton, Dorset
It is predominantly 15th century, though the porch is earlier, now being clasped by the south aisle.
The windows of the north aisle were acquired at the Dissolution from the abbey cloisters and moved bodily up the hill, complete with their delightful corbels, which includes a carving of a bagpipe player.
In the church are two beautiful panels of early 16th century paintings showing the Apostles. These also came from Milton Abbey.
