St Michael
Playden, Sussex
West of the River Rother, St Michaels spire is a landmark from across the Romney Marshes.
All of the other Romney Marsh churches are in Kent, but this one is in East Sussex, and it is one of the latest, built in 1505 on land reclaimed from the sea.
East Guldeford, Sussex
It is a low, brick built building with substantial brick buttresses and a squat tower.
The inside of the church is very simple, with box pews lining the nave. Much of the interest is at the east end, where large angels were painted on the chancel walls in the 19th century. They echo the stone angel corbels in the chancel that survived destruction after the Reformation.
