Egglestone Abbey

The charming ruins of a small monastery of Premonstratensian 'white canons', picturesquely set above a bend in the River Tees near Barnard Castle.
Richard III enlarged this church in the 15th century. He looks down at you from the chancel arch! The church has long associations with the Durham Militia and the Durham Light Infantry whoses standards hang here. St Mary offers beautiful stained glass, a welcoming atmosphere and one of the only indoor labyrinths in the country for you to walk through.
