St John's was built in 1896 with pews by Robert 'Mousey' Thompson of Kilburn, some with his trademark mouse. The planners envisaged its future growth and included an arch in the west wall. which was removed and an extension added in 1994 to provide additional facilities. During this renovation, the Rood Screen was resited between the glass panels separating the church from the foyer to good effect. In 2005 restructuring of the church took place, resulting in the expansive, open appearance of the chancel, you see today. In Easter 2012 a beautiful glass font bowl was dedicated to the Glory of God for Baptism and together with the altar and lectern, they symbolise God's Word and Sacraments at the heart of his church. The faith of the people is reflected through various voluntary activities in the community. St John's is a Fair Trade parish and demonstrates concern for fairness and justice through the Fair Trade Stall, open monthly on the mornings of the second weekend. Our annual Ecofest celebration takes place in mid June and is arguably the largest 'green' event in the Diocese, supported by our recently installed solar panels.
