St Andrew
Coston, Leicestershire
Dating from the 12th Century, the church is situated outside the village with commanding views of the Leicestershire countryside.
Sproxton, Leicestershire
Although the church was built in the 12th century, there is a Viking Cross in the churchyard, the only preConquest standing complete in Leicestershire, which shows the Christian connection is far older.
An 11th century grave cover, found during recent drainage work, is also displayed inside. The church was extended in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. The finely carved octagonal font was added in the early 15th century. The gargoyles of animal grotesques are older than the roof they support having been previously used in the original Norman church.
