Grainthorpe, Lincolnshire
St Clement's is a beautiful and imposing marshland church, which has been at the centre of Grainthorpe life for 800 years. As a Grade I listed building it is recognised as being of exceptional architectural and historical interest.
Built of stone and rendered in places, it has evolved through the ages, but still retains many of it's medieval features. The church has elements of the decorated and perpendicular Gothic styles, consisting of a fine embattled tower, nave of four bays with clerestory and wide aisles, chancel, north door and a south porch. The clawed feet at the base of the columns in the nave are older survivals from around 1200, before the church was remodelled in the 14th and 15th centuries.
So much to discover in the church!

Also do not miss our 14th century brass cross with it's unusual design featuring five fantastical fishes; and the medieval stone altar, a rare survivor of the reformation.
