St Lawrence with Bishop Edward King

A beautifully English Victorian church nestling in parklands in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
The oldest parts of the present building date from the first half of the 14th century. Its finest features are the capitals of the pillars on the south side of the nave. The church was thoroughly restored around 1860. The nave and aisles were completely rebuilt, though much of the existing stonework was used again, and a new porch was added.
The churchyard contains grandfather, father and son oak trees! The ivy covered oak opposite the porch and near to the churchyard wall is said to be a thousand years old whilst its grandson nearby is a mere youngster, having been planted in 1835!
The churchyard contains a stone commemorating the marriage in the church of Matthew Flinders, the first circumnavigator of Australia, to Ann Chappelle on 17th April 1801. The weathervane also recognises the link with Flinders, being shaped as a sailing ship.
