The building is an attractive neo gothic Methodist church built in 1885 and set in equally attractive grounds on an intersection with one of the main roads into South Elmsall from the A638 Wakefield and Doncaster road. The architect was Thomas Wilson of Messrs Wilson & Son of Leeds. The church was constructed to their specification from Elland flagstones and Horsforth Sandstone. It is the only public building in its neighbourhood, on a hill overlooking South Elmsall and is a prominent community landmark.
