St John the Baptist

Built in 1958 by the architects Broadhead and Royle who wrote ‘the style stems from the early Christian columned halls of the 4th century but cannot be honestly placed in any historical style other than mid 20th century'.

One of the most remarkable features of the building is the tower which stands at 50 feet high and holds the eleven church bells. On top is a 17ft high cross which was originally made of copper but has been replaced with one made of steel.
