Charing is a pretty village, and Market Place is lined with old buildings of flint and brick, including the ruins of an archbishop's palace.

The church is handsome, with a buttressed and battlemented tower, and dates originally from the late 1400s.
It was partly destroyed by fire a century later, and the replacement roofs are clearly dated 1592 and 1620. The interior is impressive, with a mixture of old and modern fittings.
