St George’s is one of only two remaining world renowned cast iron churches, both in Liverpool.
Inspired by the German churches of the 1930s, Grade I listed St Monica’s church is an impressive brick structure with a green glaze pantile roof.

The church building was designed by the architect FX Velarde and construction was started in 1930 and completed in 1936. Three impressive sculptures of angels were created by sculptor H Tyson Smith. Situated high on the tower, they command an impressive view when approaching the church.
