It is set in a prominent position in the town and close to the original site where John Wesley first preached in Llanelli, which is marked by a blue heritage plaque.
It was designed as an elaborate gothic church by the architect James Wilson of Bath, the exterior and interior of the church being good examples of their type. Wilson is said to have led the Wesleyan church into the path of the Gothic Revival. His son, also an architect, is thought to have designed part of the building, married into the famous 'Buckley' family. Revd James Buckley his clerical calling with the founding of the famous Buckley's Brewery.
Wilson created a wonderful baronial hall effect in the church, framed by ranks of braced scissor trusses supported on moulded timber brackets. The outside roof tiles are noted for their shape, design and colour.
