The church nestles into the hill above the chalk stream valley to the east of the village.

A site of Christian worship for over a 1,000 years, it comprises of a nave and a crossing with north, east, and south arms. It has extraordinary medieval wall paintings which are the oldest in situ in the country and are of international significance. During the reformation these unique and remarkable works were hidden and were only rediscovered in the 1930s. Today visitors can see depictions of St George fighting the dragon, an allegory of good overcoming evil; the Sabbath Breakers, a vivid morality painting and caricature directed at the people as a warning against Sunday work; and the most treasured of all, the Anglo-Saxon Nether Wallop angel dating from 1022.
