St Kenelm

Beautifully sited on the River Windrush, St Kenelm's stands next to the dramatic ruined manor house of the Lovells, who rebuilt the original priory church or minster in the mid 15th century.

Soon afterwards, this once great family made its exit from history with the 9th Baron, Francis Lovell, henchman and lifelong friend of Richard III.

He disappeared in 1487, after the Wars of the Roses. His lands were seized by the crown and he was never heard of again. The cruciform church has scarcely altered since it was built. The central tower rests on four great pillars, with a fan vault over the crossing.

In the south transept is a well preserved Lovell tomb with a fine alabaster effigy and colourful heraldic symbols.
