The church has a modest exterior dating mostly from the Perpendicular period with a later red brick chapel on the north side. The fascination of this church lies within as it contains a remarkable collection of memorials to generations of Poleys.

The nave has an early 16th century tie beam roof and an excellent carved pulpit complete with sounding board dated 1618. The chancel was enlarged in the 17th century and has an unusual hammerbeam roof and three sided communion rails typical of this period. There are hatchments on the walls and many ledgerstone memorials set into the floor.

On the south wall of the chancel is a splendid Elizabethan tomb with rare black oak effigies of William and Alice Poley. The stained glass in the east window commemorates Hugh Weller-Poley, killed while in the RAF during World War II. Both hall and church are shown in the glass, along with rabbits and partridges.

On the north side is the Poley Chapel, with more Poley memorials including two magnificent alabaster monuments of soldier and adventurer Sir John (1558-1638) and his wife Dame Abigail (died 1652). It was erected long after their deaths and is in the baroque style. Sir John is particularly flamboyant and wears a curious frog earring. It is often suggested that the rhyme 'A Frog he would a wooing go, with a Rowley, Poley, Gammon and Spinach' may refer to the Suffolk families Roley, Poley, Bacon and Greene.
