It has a long history, and elements of the original Saxon building can still be seen.

Parts of the church were added or rebuilt between the 12th and 15th centuries, accounting for the attractive mixture of building styles that is particularly evident from the outside.

A rare survivor inside are the stone benches against the wall in the chancel; these were the precursor of seating in the body of the church.
