Christ Church is Victorian era church in north Halifax with a vibrant, Christian community.
Mount Pellon, Yorkshire
Christ Church was consecrated in 1854, designed in the Victorian Gothic style. The church has a detached aisle on the north and comprises a significant footprint. It is built in local coursed sandstone with a blue slate roof. The interior of the church has been reordered to create community and school rooms at first floor level over the north aisle. More recently the nave space has been reordered, the pews removed and underfloor heating installed.
The church is orientated traditionally, with the chancel to the east and is sited within an extensive graveyard. Christ Church building has been the hub of the local community since 1854 providing an historic place of worship and an important venue for small and large or multiple groups to meet. The local heritage includes important links with the Duke of Wellington regiment and war graves, rare Te Deum windows (Grade II listed), inspirational local business figures (Samuel Webster Breweries, Lister family), an organ built by Peter Conacher of Huddersfield, storage of Robert Thompson artefacts and examples of quality stone masonry.
