Built on a hill, the Cathedral sits majestically overlooking the ancient town of Arundel.

On the edge of Arundel Castle grounds, the private Fitzalen Chapel contains a profusion of tombs and monument to the Howard family.

As part of Arundel's striking hilltop townscape, the parish church is eclipsed by more flamboyant buildings that are visible for miles around: notably the huge 'Victorianised' castle and the Roman Catholic cathedral.

The church was completed in May 1864, the north aisle was added around 1890.

Widely said to be Derbyshire's finest parish church, and a contender for one of the best churches in England, St Oswald's is splendid both inside and out.

The story of St Helen's is very much tied to the story of the ruined castle just to the south as both castle and church were built in the 1470s by Lord Hastings.

Ashby is a remote hamlet and its medieval church of St Andrew is approached across a farmyard. The churchyard affords fabulous views across the Wolds.

The church of the Catesby family, whose manor is famous for the Gunpowder Plot Room where the conspirators formulated their plan, and where Robert Catesby and Thomas Percy were supposedly felled by a single shot here.
