A very early church with a Norman tower incorporating a late Saxon door case and, inside, a Norman font.

Large Grade I listed priory church dating from 1077, the porch is one of the oldest parts of the church and dates from the rebuilding of 1380.

Our beautiful church was built in 1837/8 and was the first church designed by the renowned architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, a nephew of the then incumbent Revd Samuel King.

A little weather boarded chapel that was once a barn.

The architect responsible for the design of St John the Evangelist was Major Rohde Hawkins.

A royal village indelibly linked with Edward IVs Queen, Elizabeth Woodville, and with Charles ll who gave this crown property to his natural son Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Grafton.

Essentially, St Mary's is a building of the 13th century, though the tower and the great arches supporting it are 14th century, inserted into the earlier building.

The churchyard has something of the character of a village green because of the array of cottages that overlook it, including Margaret Cottages, once the parish workhouse.
