A medieval church standing in an interesting churchyard with 18th century ledgers, chest tombs and two ancient yew trees with a fascinating history linking to John Wesley preaching from the pulpit built into the tree.

St James’s dates from 1832 and, together with St John’s Tidbury Green and Christ the King in Widney Junior School, serves the Parish of Shirley.

The church was originally built in 1647 but virtually rebuilt in 1882 by the architect Edward Witts.
