St Andrew’s church is rather special, and we in the parish are very proud of it. It is unusual as it is a wooden church, not stone like most in Edinburgh.

New Town is the term for the central part of Edinburgh, built between 1765 and 1850, and the First New Town was the earliest part of the area.

Home of the National Shrine of St Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, the Cathedral provides a welcoming sanctuary and fully accessible space in the heart of the busy East End.

After appreciating the grand Gothic exterior of this fine church, opened in 1876, the rich interior does not disappoint.

Built in 1938, this striking red-brick church was originally known as St Christopher’s Church, created to serve the growing suburb of Craigentinny in Edinburgh.

The history of this unusual site with its two buildings begins in the 12th century when the order of St John of Jerusalem was given charge to build a preceptory.

Designed by Robert Rowand Anderson and opened in 1888, it is noted for its interior decoration, including work by distinguished artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Our building is a 1883 Victorian Gothic building (built on the site of the previous 1843 church) with stunning stained glass windows.
