A small and ancient downland church which is very much in the centre of the isolated and rural village of East Marden in the South Downs National Park.

This Saxon church has changed very little since it was built sometime before 1066.

The church on the hill, All Saints stands in the center of the village atop a hill.

Although largely stone built, St Mary's is entered through a charming early 18th century brick porch, with a large blue and gold sundial.

Approached by a narrow lane above a steep slope and surrounded by trees, Up Marden is perhaps the hardest to find of the downland churches.

Superb high Victorian church in the local ham stone with a fascinating severe saddleback tower and much stained glass by Ward & Hughes.

The churchyard has something of the character of a village green because of the array of cottages that overlook it, including Margaret Cottages, once the parish workhouse.
