During WWII Butlins holiday camp was named HMS Royal Arthur and today the church has a Royal Arthur chapel with a memorial stained glass window.

The medieval church of St Peter & St Paul is a Grade I listed building and dates from the 13th century. It has a magnificent peal of 8 bells acknowledged as one of the finest in Lincolnshire.
The first recorded service was in 1205 but there are indications of a much older church. There are also traces of Viking and Anglo Saxon settlements nearby as well as evidence of a Roman garrison and salt works.
The chancel was demolished in the early 18th century but it was more than a 150 years before it was twice restored in the late 19th century. The west tower dates from the 14th century, and the benches and font are of 15th century origin.
In the churchyard, the War Memorial is a Grade II listed former churchyard cross and sundial dating from the 17th century and restored after the First World War.
