St James the Great
Flockton, Yorkshire
This pretty village church is grade II listed and was built in 1869 in the gothic revival style.
A 15th century west tower gives fine views over the former mining village and the beautiful surroundings, dominated by Emley Moor mast.
There is much to see including beautiful stained glass (some medieval), a Norman tympanum showing the lion and the lamb, interesting memorials and a tulip font.
In 2005 the church was reordered and the interior updated and reorganised with many new facilities including an underfloor heating system, comprehensive kitchen facilities including cooker and fridge, disabled toilet, office & vestry and a bell-ringing platform. Multimedia facilities are also available.
The church is used for a wide range of events ranging from regular worship and also hosts other events including our fundraising activities, concerts, recitals, coffee mornings, luncheon clubs and exhibitions.
