St Michael
Warmington, Warwickshire
The earliest part of St Michael's is the 12th century nave.
A Grade II* listed village church of golden local Edge Hill stone, peaceful and welcoming and with several unexpected features!
Ratley, Warwickshire
Entering the churchyard, to the left of the path to the church door there is a mediaeval preaching cross, more complete than many and still where it was originally built.
The church was begun in the 1300s but building may have been interrupted by the Black Death. Certainly there are four different window styles! There are two mass dials on the exterior south wall.
Inside, the visual impact is chiefly that of the Victorian re-ordering which added encaustic tiles in the sanctuary, the altar rails, the organ and pews. The font may be mediaeval, although the modern cover was commissioned to commemorate the Millenium. There are three stone 'Achievements of Arms' in the church. A modern Icon of our patron saint was dedicated in 2007. One pillar of the South Aisle colonade is unusual in that it supports four arches at once!
There in information in the church about its history and all its features. There is also an excellent pub almost next door with a good local reputation for food and drink. Please sign the visitors book if you visit us!
