Llanelian, Clwyd
Llanelian church has had three incarnations, and may have very early beginnings. It is named for the 6th century St, Elian, traces of whose life and legend are still to be found nearby, notably at his holy well, a few hundred yards away. This was one of the most famous holy wells in Wales at one time, and became known as 'The Cursing Well'. The church contains pre Reformation paintings, an ancient stone font, and it's most recent enlargement, between 1480 and 1520 created a double-knaved church; one of the many to be found in north Wales. One of the many attractive features is the pub next door, The White Lion; which may have been in existence as long as the church itself.
