Over the years the ownership was transferred to the Knights Hospitaller and the Preceptory is the tower and two transepts of their church.

Foundations of other domestic buildings and a cloister used by the order are can be seen nearby.

The nave of the Preceptory became the parish kirk but was demolished in 1756 when the new kirk was built.

The original tower still stands and was reroofed in 1947. In the churchyard are an interesting collections of headstones and also a sanctuary stone. This marked the centre of an area of sanctuary of about a square mile, the east and west marker stones can still be seen.
