This distinctive church was created by architect Sir Robert Rowand Anderson and was constructed 1885-6.

Holy Island, or Lindisfarne, is the site of a monastery founded by St Aidan in 635 AD. It marks the establishment of Christianity in the northeast and is still a centre of pilgrimage today.

Originally built between 1856 and 1859 by the Monteith family of Carstairs, in 1907 it was all but destroyed by fire, and was rebuilt between 1908 and 1910.

New Laigh Kirk has many unique features and attracts visitors, the stained glass windows are of national importance and there are links to Robert Burns and to the Covenanters.
