We are making some changes to our grants programme to help you apply for funding for your church. This includes changes to the names of our grants and to the range of projects that can be funded.
In 2023 we will be moving to a new ‘cloud’ based grants application system. This will include a new application form which will be simpler to complete. You will also be able to better manage grant applications by being able to track them in one place instead of having to manage each application separately.
The move to our new grants application system means that that there will be some changes to the timing of grant applications and decisions on funding. However, there will be no change to the level of our core grant funding in 2023, which is expected to be around £1.4 to £1.6 million.
Changes to our grants.
We will continue to offer three types of grant. These will be:
- Small grants - these were formerly called Foundation grants for maintenance. Small grants support small but urgent maintenance and repair issues or help fund small investigative works.
These will continue to provide funding of up to £5,000 but the maximum project costs will increase from £10,000 to £20,000 making it possible for more projects to be eligible for funding and quicker decisions.
Grant application dates for Small grants. In 2023, the first time you can apply is likely to be in March. Decisions will be considered on a bi-monthly rolling basis i.e. decisions will be made in April, June, August and in October.
- Medium grants - these were formerly called Gateway grants. These grants fund small repair work or the development of projects such as preparing for a major project, or preparing to approach a major grant funder.
These will continue to provide grants of up to £10,000, but the project costs will change to between £20,000 and £80,000. Projects of under £20,000 are eligible for our Small grants and those above £80,000 for our Large grants.
Grant application dates for Medium grants. The first time you can apply will be in March 2023 with a deadline in May, and with decisions on funding announced in July 2023. There will be another decision round in December. In 2024 we expect to have three application rounds.
- Large grants – these were formerly called Cornerstone grants. These grants fund toilet and kitchen projects costing more than £30,000 and repair projects costing more than £80,000.
Grant application dates for Large grants. The first time you can apply will be in March 2023 with a deadline in April, and with decisions on funding announced in July 2023. There will be another decision round in November. In 2024, we expect to have three application rounds.
To allow you to know as early as possible if your application for a Large grant will or will not be considered by our Grants Committee, we plan to introduce a two-stage application process in 2023.
